One sheet, up to 20 passport photos
For people who already have a photo and just need it printed properly. This page is about rows, spacing, margins, PDF export and getting the physical size right at the printer.
Built for print preparation
Repeat a passport size photo across one A4 page, keep the spacing wide enough to cut along, and save a file that prints correctly at home or at a shop.
6 to 20 copies
Twenty fit comfortably on A4 with cutting space. Twelve is easier if you are using scissors.
Cutting gap you control
Enough room between photos that a blade or scissors does not clip an edge.
PDF first
A PDF carries the physical size with it. A JPG does not, and the printer will guess.

A4 sheet steps
- 1
Start with a sharp image, since every copy on the sheet inherits its quality.
- 2
Pick the photo size, the number per row and the gap between them so each copy can be cut cleanly.
- 3
Check margins and spacing before export so nothing is clipped at the page edge.
- 4
Print at actual size or 100% scale, and ask the shop not to resize the file.
A4 Passport Photo Sheet FAQs
Clear answers for file preparation, printing, uploads and common document requirements.
How many passport size photos fit on an A4 sheet?
Twenty fit comfortably - four columns by five rows - once you allow a 10 mm page margin and a 5 mm gap to cut along. Around thirty will physically fit at very tight spacing but leave no cutting room. Twelve is the practical choice for scissors at home.
How do I get 6 passport size photos on an A4 sheet?
Set the copies to 6 and the tool will space them evenly across the page with generous margins. Six on A4 wastes paper but gives you the easiest cutting job, and it matches what most people actually need for one application.
Which format should I download for printing?
PDF. It stores the physical dimensions, so a printer set to 100% scale reproduces exactly 35 × 45 mm. JPG and PNG are better when you are emailing the sheet to a shop.
How should the sheet be printed?
At Actual Size or 100% scale, never "Fit to page", which shrinks a 35 mm photo to roughly 33 mm. Use 180–230 GSM photo paper for anything being pasted onto a form.
Can I take this to a photocopy shop?
Yes. Share the PDF and ask them to print it as-is without resizing or rebuilding the layout. Shops often re-lay it out in their own software, which is where the size goes wrong.
How many photos fit on a 4 × 6 inch print?
Six comfortably, eight at tight spacing. A 4 × 6 lab print is usually the cheapest way to get passport photos printed in India - often a few rupees for the whole sheet.
Instructions
How to make an A4 passport photo sheet
Building a print sheet is a different job from cropping a photo. What matters here is spacing, margins, export format and the printer's scale setting.
Choose the photo size first
The photo size decides how many copies fit, so settle it before you pick a layout.
Leave a cutting gap
Photos placed edge to edge cannot be cut cleanly. A few millimetres between them saves the whole sheet.
Check the scale setting
Actual Size or 100%. This is the single most common reason printed photos come out slightly undersized.
Send the sheet, not the photo
Give the shop the generated file so the layout survives the trip.
Printing checklist
Home and shop printing
- Print from the PDF, not from a JPG, whenever you can.
- Set scaling to Actual Size or 100% before you print.
- Use 180–230 GSM photo paper for photos being pasted onto forms.
- Check the print preview before spending a sheet of photo paper.
- Cut one photo, measure it with a ruler, then cut the rest.
How many photos fit on each paper size
Calculated from the paper dimensions with a real cutting gap allowed for, rather than estimated.
| Sheet | Comfortable | Maximum | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| A4 (210 × 297 mm) | 20 photos (4 across × 5 down) | Around 24–30 at very tight spacing | Bulk printing for a whole family or a shop counter |
| A4, spaced for easy cutting | 12 photos (3 across × 4 down) | 16 | Home printing with scissors instead of a paper cutter |
| 4 × 6 inch (102 × 152 mm) | 6 photos (2 across × 3 down) | 8 | Cheapest option at a local photo lab |
| A6 / postcard | 4 photos | 6 | When you only need a couple of copies |
Prepare the photo before printing
Use these if the photo still needs a cleaner crop, an exact size or optional text.
Common mistakes
Too much compression
Very small KB targets can make faces, signatures or document text unclear.
Wrong dimensions
Many portals reject files when the KB is correct but pixel size or aspect ratio is wrong.
Skipping the final check
Open the final file once before upload so you catch blurry output or the wrong format.
Using portal-unapproved backgrounds
Some forms need white or plain backgrounds, even if the photo size is correct.
